Welcome to Brief 60, titled Stuff I Read on Vacation You May Find Relevant.
Quick question: Where is your favorite place to vacation? Reply here and let me know. I will curate a list from the responses and share it on the next Brief.
I'm currently enjoying a two-week family getaway that we take every year as soon as school ends. This trip is the Outer Banks in North Carolina (specifically Emerald Isle). In the US, this is our family favorite.

It's a much-needed break from the January-June grind, allowing us to recharge and disconnect. By June, we're all ready for school to be over and for a change of pace. We're now one week into our holiday. During the first week, I disconnect entirely, and during the second week, I work lightly. I'll be back on full starting next week.
During my break, I came across two reports that I believe are not only interesting but also highly relevant to our industry, the global access control industry, and your business in particular. I hope you find them interesting and of value. I believe they are worth the read.
The second half of 2024 is shaping up to be truly exciting for our industry. Among the things we have in store are some significant announcements and events that I'm sure you'll find intriguing.
-
A significant (to us) announcement about the Access Control Executive Brief is coming soon.
-
As part of my strategy to get out in the market and meet with the people behind the companies, I will visit Allan Chester of Any2Any in Munich and Pierre-Antoine Larrera de Morel of STiD in Marseille, France. I look forward to meeting them and their teams and bringing you a full visit report in an upcoming Brief.
-
ACS24 DC will be held on October 23rd and 24th. The theme will be UX. Please contact me directly if you would like to speak at ACS24 DC.
-
Intersec Saudi Arabia will feature a single-day Thought Leadership activated by the Access Control Executive Brief. As we did in Dubai earlier this year, we want to bring industry leaders together to share their insights and experiences. This event is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and network with key players in the global access control industry. If you are interested in participating, please let me know, and I will connect you with the show organizer.
-
At ISC East, we will have a special announcement to make. This announcement will mark a significant milestone in our business and we find it to be “critical” ;)
We look forward to sharing this news with you. And much more!
As always, your feedback is invaluable to us. Please let me know if there's any area where we can better meet your expectations.
Thank you!

PS: I am sure some of you may forward this, but please do so sparingly and encourage others to sign up here. Thank you!
Leveraging Insights from the LinkedIn B2B Marketing Report for the Access Control Industry
LinkedIn recently published a report titled 'The 5 Principles of Growth in B2B Marketing: Empirical Observations on B2B Effectiveness.' This report provides valuable insights into the changing landscape of B2B marketing and its implications for various industries, including the access control industry. Here's a summary and critical takeaways focusing on the access control industry.
The LinkedIn B2B Marketing Report is a great tool that can help us better understand market dynamics, emphasize technology advancements, appreciate the importance of data and analytics, and comprehend the workings of account-based marketing. It also sheds light on the significance of thought leadership and illuminates future trends and opportunities
Key Takeaways from the LinkedIn B2B Marketing Report
The Changing B2B Marketing Landscape
-
B2B marketing is significantly transforming due to changing buyer expectations, technological advancements, and data-driven strategies.
-
Buyers expect a seamless, personalized, and insight-driven experience across multiple touchpoints.
-
Successful B2B marketers use data, technology, and content to deliver more relevant and engaging experiences.
My perspective relates to the global access control industry: Few companies in our sector personalize their marketing or create engaging experiences. I suspect this is because much of the available marketing talent is relegated to social media posts, while product marketers are more focused on press releases, product cut sheets, and sporadic LinkedIn posts. You can spot this when you see a post begin with phrases like "The first..." Instead of harnessing existing talent, creativity, and engagement (termed "being productive"), we prioritize maintaining an active status where any contribution is deemed valuable. The silver lining is that it only takes a little to stand out for those few who prioritize these aspects. Ask me how I know.
The Emergence of Account-Based Marketing (ABM)
-
ABM is becoming a strategic approach to target and engage key accounts more effectively.
-
42% of B2B marketers have implemented an ABM program, and 87% plan to invest in ABM in the coming year.
-
ABM promotes better alignment between marketing and sales teams, leading to higher ROI and customer lifetime value.
My perspective as it relates to the global access control industry: I'll start with the definition of ABM and leave it here: a strategic approach to B2B marketing that focuses on targeting and engaging specific high-value accounts rather than casting a wide net to attract leads
The Vital Role of Content Marketing
-
Content marketing is a top priority for B2B marketers, with 93% incorporating it into their overall marketing strategy.
-
Effective content marketing necessitates a data-driven approach, personalization, and a focus on quality over quantity.
-
Successful B2B marketers use interactive and visual content formats to engage buyers more effectively.
My perspective on the global access control industry: As the industry is heavily invested in LinkedIn, which is leading to a noisy environment, where do you plan to differentiate your viral content marketing strategy?
The Significance of Data and Analytics
-
Data and analytics are crucial for understanding buyer behavior, optimizing campaigns, and measuring ROI.
-
62% of B2B marketers consider data and analytics a top priority for enhancing marketing performance.
-
Integrating data from multiple sources and employing advanced analytics tools are primary challenges for B2B marketers.
My perspective on the global access control industry: What they are talking about here differs significantly from the current metrics discussion or the ROI requests your marketing, or rather, product department, is receiving from finance. Why? Like many things, marketing data and analytics are more complex than tracking likes and impressions. You should involve experts to interpret performance metrics and make data-driven decisions balanced with intuition. What might be worth considering? How could you utilize a Director of Marketing Intelligence?
The Future of B2B Marketing
-
B2B marketing will continue to evolve, emphasizing personalization, account-based strategies, and data-driven decision-making.
-
Successful B2B marketers must adopt an agile mindset, embrace new technologies, and foster greater collaboration between marketing and sales teams.
-
Investing in talent development, especially in data analytics and content creation, will be essential for competitiveness.
My perspective on the global access control industry: It is a great time to be a marketer. As the industry continues to move online, the addressable market increases and the pressure to grow rises, so companies will appreciate what marketers can bring.
So, to wrap up the review, the LinkedIn B2B Marketing Report underscores the transformative changes shaping the B2B marketing landscape and provides valuable insights for marketers to adapt and succeed in this evolving environment.

Buyer Preferences
Buyers strongly prefer self-service, especially in the early stages of the buying process. The report reveals that 69% usually engage a salesperson only after they've made a decision. Peer reviews and independent forums are increasingly trusted over vendor websites.
Key Takeaways
This report offers several takeaways for. Prioritizing C-suite engagement and demonstrating a clear ROI from AI is critical. Leading with security credentials and facilitating easy assessments can be beneficial. Developing quick-win strategies focused on visible value impact can also be helpful. Balancing self-service options with strategic sales engagement is necessary, and integrating service partners early in the sales process can be advantageous.
In conclusion, the 2024 Buyer Behavior Report highlights the growing influence of AI, the importance of security, and the need for vendors to adapt to changing buyer preferences and decision-making processes in the B2B software market.
